Museum of Embroidery and Textiles

The Museum of Embroidery and Textiles of Valtopina, inaugurated in 2007 thanks to donations collected since 2000 by families from Foligno, Spello, Perugia and other regions, is housed in the Town Hall and is linked to the local Embroidery School of the Pro Loco. The collection numbers about 400 pieces divided into three sections: women's fashion, personal linens and household linens. The first documents the simplification of clothing between the late 1800s and early 1900s, with wide use of lace; the second shows refined workmanship on underwear and layettes for newborns, a symbol of status for the emerging bourgeoisie. The third section, on household linens, tells of the transition from trousseaus made in boarding schools to those entrusted to seamstresses and specialized workshops. White-on-white embroidery with symbolic floral motifs predominates, such as the love knot.
