On May 10, 1796, Lodi was an unremarkable city on the Po Valley plain. Within a few hours, it became a name destined to resonate throughout the world. A young general of twenty-seven — Napoleon Bonaparte — needed to cross a bridge over the Adda River to open the road to Milan.
