Buonconsiglio Castle is the largest and most important monument in the region. Originally a fortress from the mid-13th century, later the residence of the prince-bishops of Trento until the Napoleonic era, then used as a barracks and now a museum, it comprises a complex of three main sections built in different periods.
Opening hours
The Buonconsiglio Castle is CLOSED every Monday that is not a public holiday, and on 25 December.
SPECIAL OPENINGS:
1 January 2026 from 10:00 to 17:00;
For the months of January, February and March, and November and December there is an additional opening on every third Friday from 17:00 to 21:00.
For the months of April, May, June, July, September and October there is an additional opening on every third Friday from 18:00 to 22:00.

Accessibility
Visiting Buonconsiglio Castle in Trento and the museum's branch locations, Castel Thun, Castel Beseno, Castel Caldes, Castel Stenico, Castel Valer, and Palazzo Taddei, can be challenging for anyone with mobility issues.
Buonconsiglio Castle has architectural barriers and no elevators, except for the Sala del Buonconsiglio and Sala Gerola, which can be reached by elevator.
The gardens, library, and café can be accessed via a convenient ramp at the San Martino gate, even in a wheelchair.
Thanks to the elevator located inside the café, visitors can admire the frescoes in the Clesiano Refectory.
