Information
Ponte degli Alpini - Viale Europa, 22 - 32100 BellunoMonument to the Alpini - Ponte degli Alpini
The Alpini Bridge, christened in 1971, spans the Ardo stream at the entrance to Belluno. At its ends stand two identical statues of an Alpino sculpted by Franco Fiabane on the occasion of the centenary of the Alpini Corps. Conceived as sentinels of the viaduct and of the city's memory, they do not celebrate militarism but pay tribute to those who defended the community, weaving together place, history, and collective identity.
The Ponte degli Alpini (Alpini Bridge), named in 1971, spans the Ardo stream at the entrance to Belluno. At its ends stand two identical statues of an Alpino (a member of the Alpini mountain troops), sculpted by Franco Fiabane and inaugurated in 1972 on the occasion of the centenary of the Alpini Corps: monumental figures carved from San Gottardo stone, cloaked, wearing the feathered hat and holding a rifle like a staff. Conceived as sentinels of the viaduct and of the city's memory, they do not celebrate militarism but pay tribute to those who defended the community, intertwining place, history and collective identity.
