Welcome to the Archaeological Museum of Finale!
The museum itinerary is divided into 10 rooms that fascinate visitors with their architectural setting and evocative perspectives. From the room dedicated to the Finalese area, rich in natural, historical, and archaeological value, the exhibition proceeds chronologically through human history, from the Paleolithic (with Homo heidelbergensis, Neanderthals, and the Young Prince buried in the Arene Candide Cave) to the Middle Ages.
The Neolithic marks the beginning of agriculture, animal husbandry, and pottery, while the Metal Age introduces more complex societies and ethnic identities such as the ancient Ligurians. This is followed by the Roman conquest of western Liguria, the spread of Christianity, and Finale’s role in Byzantine Liguria.
The journey ends with medieval evidence of the Del Carretto marquises’ rule (XII-XVII century) and with the last room dedicated to the evolution of coinage, symbol of the growing social complexity.
