Buonconsiglio Castle: what to see
The complex includes Castelvecchio, the oldest part, residence of the prince-bishops from the mid-13th century; the Giunta Albertiana of 1686, with rooms decorated in the Baroque style; and the Magno Palazzo, a Renaissance residence begun in 1528 by prince-bishop Bernardo Cles and decorated by, among others, Dosso Dossi, Girolamo Romanino and Marcello Fogolino. For a supplement you can visit Torre Aquila, home to the Cycle of the Months, a Gothic masterpiece painted around 1400. The art and archaeology collections range from prehistory to the first half of the 19th century.
The Buonconsiglio app and audio guide
Buonconsiglio is the app of the Buonconsiglio Castle in Trento. It offers a personalised audio guide with descriptions, curiosities and in-depth notes to listen to with headphones, an interactive map to find your way and a section with news about exhibitions and events. There are four itineraries: the standard one, one with subtitled videos in Italian Sign Language (LIS), one with audio descriptions for blind and partially sighted visitors, and a family route with animations. The content is available in Italian and English. The app was created as part of the Digital Call for Culture of Fondazione Caritro.
How to use the app during your visit
Download the Buonconsiglio app from the store: it is free and you do not need to create an account. Choose the itinerary you prefer and follow the directions in the rooms with the help of the interactive map. The app needs an internet connection and works best with Bluetooth turned on.
Useful information
Address: Via Bernardo Clesio 5, Trento. The castle is closed on Mondays that are not public holidays and on 25 December. The visit to Torre Aquila requires an additional ticket.
