Santuario di Maria Immacolata Nostra Signora di Lourdes - Opere di Franco Fiabane
On the Nevegal, Franco Fiabane’s Via Crucis accompanies the pilgrim along a woodland path to the Sanctuary: fifteen stations carved directly into large blocks of Alpago stone (each 30–50 quintals — about 3–5 tonnes — and up to 3 m high), worked without models in a Michelangelesque approach. The cycle, simple and meditative, entrusts the narrative power of the episodes to gesture and to the relationship between solids and voids, with echoes of Martini and Michelangelo. The figures appear to emerge from the rock in dialogue with the landscape; at the entrance to the path there once stood a monumental Angel of Welcome, which is no longer preserved.
