San Martino dona il mantello - Ospedale San Martino di Belluno

A single block of stone from Alpago becomes, in high relief, the scene of St. Martin dismounting to spread his cloak over a poor, skeletal, supplicating figure. The triangular composition and the "in levare" carving emphasize the dialogue between figure and material: chiseled areas and portions left in their natural state, evoking Martini, Michelangelo (the "Prigioni") and Henry Moore. Not a charitable gesture from above, but a direct sharing in suffering: a declaration of piety and human dignity in the spirit of Fiabane's civic sculpture.
