Eighty years ago, for the first time in Italy's history, women entered polling stations as citizens with full rights. No longer mere spectators, but protagonists of the country's democratic life. From that moment on, their gaze, their voice and their presence have contributed to transforming society, culture and institutions. Eighty years after that achievement, the exhibition Rebel Muses. Women, Images, Power in the History of Art invites us to reflect on another form of participation and recognition: that concerning images, representation and the role of women in art history. For centuries, women have been observed, narrated and depicted. Only rarely have they been able to define and represent themselves. The exhibition path recounts precisely this transition: from woman as muse and object of the gaze to woman as active subject, author, interpreter and protagonist of her own history.
